Be an Effective Team Member
Being a qathet School Trustee involves being part of a group of dedicated individuals who commit to discuss, debate and make decisions, within the School Act framework and in line with the current 2023-28 qathet School District strategic plan. I have experience working collaboratively with diverse groups of individuals to seek consensus and to advance common interest.
Be Accountable
Being a qathet School Trustee involves overseeing a $53M budget, ensuring policies are put in practice, as well as supporting and holding the Superintendent accountable for the implementation of annual operational plans, with the purpose of improving student achievement and wellbeing. I have experience interpreting complex financial statements, conducting executive leader performance review, monitoring outcomes to ensure priorities are met, and seeking clarity through hard conversations.
Be a Community Leader
Being a qathet School District Trustee involves actively listening to and considering perspectives beyond my own, including school district employees, teachers, parents, community, and most importantly, students! I have experience seeking diverse perspectives, identifying common threads to reach informed decisions.
My commitments
With the ultimate goal of improving student achievement and wellbeing, the prospect of contributing to the qathet School District is exciting to me. My professional, educational and governance background includes:
Master of Business Administration (MBA)
10 years as a teacher/educational leader
11 years on governance boards
volunteer member on the District Parent Advisory Committee (DPAC)
I am highly motivated and confident in my ability to positively impact qathet School District's vision of creating a brighter future for all!
About me
Originally from Québec I pursued a career in education, completing a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education at Université de Montréal. In 1998, I moved to British Columbia and taught Physical Education, Social Studies and French at Kitsilano High School in Vancouver. To this day I feel privileged to have been able to work with and support teenagers in such a unique developmental stage of their lives. In 2000, I embarked on a two-year sabbatical traveling in over 15 countries gaining appreciation for different cultures and worldviews. From 2002 to 2010, I worked as a Teacher/Department Head in the United Arab Emirates and as a Teacher/Curriculum Coordinator at the Canadian International School, Singapore. These 8 years are filled with memories of thoughtful conversations with educators, meaningful collaboration with parents/ caregivers and formative moments with primary school students!
In 2010, my spouse Calico and I relocated to the qathet region, where I led an outdoor education centre affiliated with Francophone Education Authority (School District 93). In 2013, I completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and joined the qathet Division of Family Practice in the role of Executive Director. As a lifelong learner, I recently completed the International Master for Health Leadership (IMHL) at McGill University. Our two sons, Gabriel and Samuel, have been students of qathet School District since Kindergarten, which gives me a rich perspective on their educational experience.
